Office chair

Office chairs are adaptable. Choosing and adjusting the right office chair depends on each individual's use and morphology. A practical office chair can be adapted to suit any body size, thanks to a pivoting headrest, height-adjustable armrests and seat. Knee-rest chairs take the strain off the back and are particularly suitable for long periods of work in front of a computer screen. A large imitation-leather chair with castors is ideal for writing or meetings.

If you work from home, you already know that sitting comfortably at your desk is essential. And it can't be improvised! One element plays an important role in your comfort: the chair. To sit properly, it's essential to take into account a number of criteria, which we're going to look at for you.

Does the perfect office chair exist?

Recent studies have shown that we spend almost a quarter of our lives at our desks! So it makes perfect sense to sit comfortably.

To do this, you'll need to think about a few things. First of all, the number of hours you spend at your workstation (this obviously also applies to your leisure time).

Sitting for long hours can lead to back, lower back and leg pain. To avoid this, you need to choose the right type of chair.

If you sit for less than 4 hours, a standard mechanism will be perfect. This is a model with a fixed backrest. The seat height can be adjusted to suit your height.

Less than 7 consecutive working hours? Choose a chair with a permanent contact mechanism. The backrest accompanies your movements and provides optimum support for your back. It is of course possible to lock the backrest in a specific position. This system adapts to the user's morphology and weight. The seat, on the other hand, is fixed.

Spending more time at your desk? The synchronous mechanism is for you. Backrest and seat follow your movements. The body is therefore constantly supported, which greatly reduces pain. This is the practical chair par excellence. Of course, these are the most expensive models.

Think about the way you stand too. Do you need armrests? Here again, the choice is yours. There are fixed armrests, or armrests that can be adjusted in height, depth or width (3D). The most sophisticated models feature 4D armrests, i.e. the inclination can also be adjusted.

Finally, it's also important to take a look at the base. A tripod (3 legs) is the recommended minimum. Quadripods (4 legs) and 5 legs are more comfortable and sturdy. Need to move around a lot to fetch your files? Opt for feet with castors. Precision work? Skate feet are recommended.

You can also choose a sit-stand model that allows you to vary positions to avoid pain.

Style is just as important

Now you have a clear idea of which office chair is right for you. But you also need to think in terms of style. A chair that doesn't blend in with the rest of the furniture will be in very poor taste.

For uncluttered spaces, black and white are the colours of choice. Looking for originality? Flashy shades and fabric upholstery are perfect. Is your office classic? A wooden chair with brown upholstery, ideally leather, will be divine.

You can also choose a chair with a particular style: industrial, Scandinavian, English, antique, colonial, retro, atelier, Eames... It's important to find the perfect style to create a coherent whole. Prefer to think outside the box? Then play on contrasts. A modern chair in a rustic setting, for example.
