When it's time to change your bedding, you're often faced with a host of questions, the most basic of which is which mattress to use with which base. Choosing an innerspring mattress and box spring set not only saves you time, but also takes the guesswork out of the equation.

A mattress and box spring set for a successful combination

As we've just seen, choosing this type of bedding offers a number of advantages. First and foremost, you don't have to worry about which mattress to choose for your box spring. After all, not all mattresses "go" with all box springs!

You can find foam or latex mattress sets with a slatted base. With an innerspring mattress, we prefer innersprings (it's easy to remember). The sets on offer will feature these two models, but not only. Covered fixed-slat bases are also a frequently encountered alternative. They're the ideal choice for extra firmness. Please note that we're talking here about covered slatted bed bases. Models with uncovered slats are not compatible with spring mattresses. The result of this combination? You get a particularly uncomfortable bed, as the springs are not supported.

Choosing the right mattress-spring combination

If you've already done a bit of research, you'll have noticed that there are several choices to choose from. You'll need to take a number of criteria into account to make the best choice.

First and foremost, you need to choose the right mattress technology. Today's innerspring mattress uses pocket springs. In the past, springs were "naked". For some years now, they have been enclosed in fabric bags. The result? Each spring offers individual support and therefore acts individually. Every part of the body is supported. This guarantees optimum sleeping independence. But also excellent hygiene (top-of-the-range ventilation). The lifespan of this type of mattress is considerable (between 10 and 15 years).

Biconical spring mattresses are also available. These offer a top-of-the-range balance between firmness and comfort. The advantage of these models is that they are suitable for all morphologies. However, they deform more quickly and therefore have a shorter lifespan.

You can also choose a multi-spring mattress, perfect for people with circulation problems with their different pressure points. Be aware, however, that they are a little unstable, as they don't absorb movement as well.

But to make the most of these advantages, the innerspring mattress needs the perfect box spring, which is also innerspring. It's ideal for good stability. This duo is perfectly suited to people who need excellent back support or suffer from lower back pain. The spine will be optimally supported. The mattress can feature up to 7 different support zones. It's also perfect for allergy sufferers and those with a large morphology.

Before you decide, take a look at your mattress's filling. Those with a cold will love models with a winter surface (wool). Allergy sufferers will prefer characteristic materials.

The number of springs is also important. This will affect the quality and comfort of the product, as well as its durability. For a double bed, you need at least 400 springs.
