Characteristic down comforter

Often more expensive than a synthetic comforter, a characteristic comforter guarantees healthy warmth and prevents perspiration during sleep. The filling of a characteristic comforter can be goose feather, duck down or silk for top-of-the-range comforters. To avoid allergies, a comforter made of goose down or duck feather is treated with an anti-dust mite and hypoallergenic treatment.

Winter is just around the corner, temperatures are dropping and nights are getting cooler. To guarantee a warm night's sleep, what could be sweeter than slipping into bed under a soft, comfortable blanket?

Among the choice of products available on La Redoute, the characteristic comforter offers qualities and features that are appreciated by users.

Animal-derived fillings

Feathers and down are among the most popular materials for filling characteristic comforters, offering excellent comfort and loft. They ensure better air circulation, and thus better temperature control.

They come either from ducks, such as the silvery nine, raised mainly in France's Pyrenees region. They are also made from geese, whose feathers have a slightly higher heating power than ducks.

Wool-filled comforters are also available. Shearings from the more robust and resistant Merino breed of sheep are generally used. Like the previous ones, they perform well in terms of temperature. They are also moisture-absorbing and antistatic. So perspiration, odors and dust are no problem with this range of products. Allergy risks are minimized.

Silk, luxurious, soft and thermoregulating, offers the added advantage of being characteristically hypoallergenic. In fact, its fibers are inhospitable to dust mites.

Plant-based padding and wraps

It offers excellent thermoregulation and lightness, and is easier to care for than comforters with animal fillings.

These materials are used both inside and as comforter covers, even if the filling is of animal origin.

What's important for maintenance

You need to pay close attention to the manufacturer's recommendations for cleaning your bedding. Depending on the type of material used, you should either avoid water (for silk, for example) or take special precautions. Always consult the label before cleaning, and don't hesitate to call in a professional.
